278 - The Best Lockdown Mooring

This vlog was filmed on 15th April and we are three and a half weeks into lockdown.

We moved to boat from our mooring in Retford to the water point above Charlies Lock. We were planning to moor there but the visitor moorings were full so we end up staying on the lock landing for the night. Half way back to our original lockdown mooring in Retford we find a wonderfully isolated mooring by the woods and decide to stay there until we need to stock up on food again.

We hope everyone is doing ok.

277 - The Ups & Downs of Lockdown on a Narrowboat

Todays vlog was filmed on 14th April 2020. We are three weeks into lockdown and need to move the boat up 5 locks to fill our water tank. We know we are very lucky to be spending lockdown on our Narrowboat but we are still finding it hard. And while Retford is the perfect place in many ways we encounter some trouble from some annoying kids who should have been at home. We hope everyone is doing ok. Thanks for watching and thank you for all the support

276 - The Worst Welcome to Retford and the Start of Lockdown

This video was filemd on 23rd March 2020, the day that lockdown was announced in the UK.

In this vlog we travel from Clarborough to the town of Retford on the Chesterfileld Canal. Its a lovely canal and a great cruise but unfortunately we didn't choose the best mooring spot when we first arrived and we had a little trouble. Luckily after that everything was great.

273 - A Huge Change of Plans

This video was filmed on 17th March, 6 days before lockdown was announced in the UK.
On this day we were supposed to be in Canada visiting family, but like so many people we had to change our plans. We returned to our Narrowboat home and cruised west along the Chesterfield Canal from West Stockwith to Drakeholes.

We hope everyone is keeping safe.

HOW WE MAKE OUR NARROWBOAT VLOGS || PART TWO - THE ROUGH EDIT & VOICE OVER

This is the second video in our series on how we make our Narrowboat cruising vlogs. In this episode I talk about how I do the rough edit and voice over. I know not everyone will be interested in these videos but as you can imagine I have a bit more time on my hands while we are in lockdown and i have enjoyed making a different style of video. As we have not been allowed to cruise I am not able film any new cruising vlogs but I do have 4 or 5 that we filmed before lock down that I still need to edit so they will be following in the next few weeks.

269 - Ambushed at Thorne Lock by Lots of Little Land Lubbers

In todays vlog we we travel from Barnby Dun to Thorne on the Sheffield & South Yorkshire Navigation. Its a very cold day in January and we need diesel so we turn onto the Stainforth and Keadby Canal so we can visit Stanilands Marina.
Then its just a short hop to the moorings in Thorne but at the lock we come across a school who appear to be on a field trip and so Michael ends up holding a spontaneous Q&A in the lock.

266 - Locks of Adventures on the Sheffield and Tinsley canal - Avoiding ...

his vlog was filmed on the 3rd January 2020.

We make our way down the Tinsley flight from Sheffield, though Rotherham and onto Kilnhurst with our new friends aboard Narrowboat Ducks Deluxe.
The lock flight was fairly hard work because the was an awful lot of water in the canal meaning it was pouring over the top of the lock gates into the lock chambers and as the locks are all fairly short extra care was needed. We only had one near miss when the bumper on Ducks Dulux got caught on the lock gate, lucking Karen spotted the problem and rushed to push the boat off avoiding disaster.

I hope everyone is doing ok. We are all fine, thank you to everyone who has contacted us to ask. Obviously we are unable to cruise at the moment so we are moored up and isolating like everyone else.

I made the edit a little longer than usual as I thought people might appreciate a longer distraction right now.

We hope everyone is doing okay.

163 - Don Go This Way

In todays vlog we have a late start as even though the River Don is no longer in flood the navigation has not been opened. Which means we are not going to make it to Aldwalke in the 2 hour window that it is open for.

On the plus side we meet a lovely couple to travel with and we meet a really lovely CRT lock keeper that comes to our rescue.

262 - Stuck in Doncaster Due to Flooding

In todays vlog we leave Barnby Dun and head south on the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation towards Doncaster. We had hoped to get a little further but the river is back in flood so we are stopped in our tracks

The canal is wide and straight and they day is grey. We have been waiting to come this way since the River Don has been if flood and the Don Aqueduct is finally open for navigation again. We don't make it far, just to the visitor moorings at Barnby Dun We are also lucky enough to see the Exxol Pride pass a couple of times.

260 - A Cruise in the Rain is still a Good Cruise || Onto the New Juncti...

Today's vlog is quite a of a short cruise we did last November from Whitley Lock on the Aire & Calder Navigation to Syke House Lift Bridge on the New Junction Canal which is part of the Sheffield and South Yorkshire Navigation. This only our second day out after getting stuck by flood water in Knottingley and we are very happy to be on the move, so even tough it is grey and wet it is still a really wonderful day.

It was only 60 miles but there were 129 LOCKS!

This last cruise was a long one and it took us from the Horbury on the Calder & Hebble Navigation to Knottingly on the Aire and Calder.

And to everyone who has being telling us to slow down. We stay here for over two weeks.

257 - We Made Some Mistakes

Today's vlog tells the story of the second to last day of our ten day push to get past a scheduled winter stoppage in Castleford. It's a long day and it's a hard day. Probably the hardest day we've even had cruising. And for that reason there isn't an awful lot of footage. We wanted to tell the story of the day so we have had to use quite a bit of time-lapse to compensate which wasn't ideal.
Please don't be too hard on us for the mistakes we made along the way. It wasn't our choice to be pushing so hard but we really felt we needed to be on the other side of of Castleford for winter. Just one more vlog to go before we really slow down for winter.
Its a long one, so congratulations to everyone that makes it to the end.

Todays vlog is from a very long day. We cruised from dawn till dusk. A total of 11 hours on the go travelling from the City of Manchester on the Rochdale Canal, all the way along the Ashton Canal and to Stalybridge on the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. It was quite and adventure.

249 - An Unexpected Change of Plans in Manchester

In todays vlog its all change. We had been expecting to head up the Rochdale Locks and onto the Ashton Canal but an unexpected lock closure in Manchester meant that we couldn't go this way and we had to completely change our winter cruising plans. We didn't actually film much of the cruise as this is the second time we have travelled on this part of the canal. Instead we stopped off at the Worsley Delph and had an explore there. We hope you enjoy the video.

248 - The River Irwell Navigation - Our Most Scary Narrowboat Adventure ...

Sorry it has been so long since we last uploaded. We have had quite an eventful start to the year. This Vlog picks up from when we were on the Manchester Ship Canal having travelled across the River Mersey from Liverpool. We are due to head up Pomona Lock and back onto the safety of the Bridgwater Canal but Michael decides that we need one more adventure before we do that. He wants to travel as far as possible up the River Irwell as we can. We couldn't find out much information on how to do this but the friendly people from the Water Sports Centre in Salford Quays helped us out with some advise. And as we were scheduled to go up the lock we had to set off before dawn. Not ideal after two big cruises. It turned out to be quite a scary trip as the Irwell was flowing very fast and there wasn't much room to turn the boat. As we turned we were being pushed sideways towards some bridge arches. Luckily it all worked out well and we made it, in the rain, to Castlefield Basin.
